Love a rainy day!

The only place to be on a seriously wet day is in the sewing room, when I look out window even the ducks are happy with the rain.

Its a great opportunity to do some project planning for my craft retreat which is in a few weeks in Dwellingup. I have ended up with a real mix of projects to do and way more than I will get done, as usual I have over planned and want to make everything.

I have a two quilt tops to start, a rag doll with some clothes for my grand daughter’s birthday and a mini quilt for the doll bed. I am using the pattern by RicRac called Tilly, never made one before, really looking forward to it. A couple of Pipa Pouches by Sewing by Masin for Christmas gifts, a few fabric pods to hang off hooks to put bits n bobs in and I am using a Simplicty pattern. Lastly I just love Christmas decos, I have had this Nordic Santa pattern for years and it’s time to make him.

To maximise your retreat experience I like to do all my cutting out and get everything I need together, there is nothing worse than getting into a project when your there and find out there’s fabric missing. No Spotlight and three days down there!

I finally finished the denim skirt hack from op shop jeans, I love it! Even if it’s out of fashion next year, I have spent less than $10….it was not as easy as I thought trying to get the crotch pieces flat on the front and back took lots of pinning and trying on to get it right.

I have been very challenged setting up my website and at one stage I just left it faults and all for two weeks despite the fact I had published it! Anyway, with the rain days I have stopped procrastinating and forced myself back to address the problems, after removing all the functions and reloading each part one by one, it’s working! All these website designers say they are easy to navigate and set up is simple, maybe for some….. but I don’t believe I am the only one that has found it bloody hard work!

With computer issues resolved I am offering two new classes as well as Back to Basics sewing and Crochet Granny squares, with the new improved online booking system. I booked myself into a class as a test and it works… 🙏🏻

I have added an Intro to cross stitch and Stretch knit sewing class, I know you're thinking why would you bother when they’re so cheap in Kmart but it’s about the challenge of sewing knit fabrics and getting the right fit. Learning to sew knit fabric on your everyday sewing machine is a great skill to know even for mending. Many people think you need an overlocker to sew stretch knits but it’s not essential.

Well that’s it for now, I have recently purchased the Heyday Dungarees pattern from Waves and Wild, it’s been on my watch list forever and I think I need a pair to take on retreat, so that’s my weekend sewing project.

What are you sewing?
